ReMastered: The Lion's Share : Netflix Trailer

I worked as a segment producer on Remastered: The Lion’s Share, a Netflix documentary exploring the exploitation of Zulu musician Solomon Linda, who wrote the original 1939 song “Mbube,” later adapted into the world-famous “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Despite the song generating millions in revenue, particularly through its use in The Lion King, Linda’s family received little to no compensation.

The film follows South African journalist Rian Malan as he works to help Linda’s descendants seek fair recognition and royalties, while situating the story within broader themes of colonialism, Black exploitation, and capitalism in the global music industry. My work focused on narrative development, interview preparation, and segment production, supporting a story that connects individual harm to systemic injustice with clarity and care.
